Location: District Wide

Summary of Position Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. The custodian must work closely with the district staff and administration to accomplish these tasks. Shift hours will be 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a year round position.

Responsibilities

Cleaning of schools, including emergency clean-ups at all buildings

Maintain school buildings, parking lots, and sidewalks during the winter to keep the top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities

Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines

Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community about daily events

Set up district facilities for athletic and community events

React to change productively and handle other tasks assigned

Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary

Support the philosophy and vision of Vassar Public Schools

Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds

Provide support to staff moving materials within and between school buildings

Adhere to district policies at all times

Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan

Other duties as assigned by the Operations Director or Administrative Staff

Qualifications

High School diploma, GED or equivalent

Familiarity with computers and software relating to maintenance and inventory

Ability to read chemical labels

Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS)

Have a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district's insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle

Regular, Reliable, and Punctual attendance

Ability to perform essential functions while adhering to district policies

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

Requires prolonged sitting, standing, or walking

Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 100 lbs.

Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing

Must work indoors and outdoors year-round

Must work in noisy and crowded environments

Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors

Must be able to drive a mechanical vehicle

Must be able to work in high places

Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other designated person

Reports To Facilities Manager

Pay $16.50 per hour. Benefits include single coverage; Medical, Dental, Vision.
