Associate Professor/Professor (Academic Lead– Clinical Pharmacology) Job No: 539818 Work type: Full Time, Part Time Location: Sydney, NSW
Employment Type: Full - time or Part– Time hours considered.
Duration: Academic Lead appointment will be 3 years, plus a continuing substantive appointment (Level D or E)
Remuneration: From $185k - $237k base prorated (+17% super, clinical loading, leave loading)
Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.

St Vincent’s Healthcare Clinical Campus The St Vincent’s Healthcare Clinical Campus in Darlinghurst encompasses the clinical facilities of St Vincent’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Private Hospital, St Vincent’s Clinic and its co-located medical research institutes and facilities. These include the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research. The campus allows students and staff to thrive in an atmosphere of dedication and excellence with state‑of‑the‑art clinical skills, information and computing resources on site.
About This Opportunity The Academic Lead provides senior leadership in Clinical Pharmacology and Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) within the UNSW Medicine Program. The role is central to ensuring graduates are equipped to prescribe safely, effectively and judiciously, consistent with Australia’s National Medicines Policy. The position carries major responsibility for curriculum leadership, teaching, assessment and innovation across all phases of the medical program, with a particular emphasis on Phase 3 and prescribing competence. The role spans metropolitan and rural clinical schoolsand includes substantive engagement in curriculum governance, high‑stakes assessment, and national professional and policy bodies. The incumbent will undertake and lead research aligned with Clinical Pharmacology, Quality Use of Medicines, prescribing education, medication safety and related clinical disciplines.
Key Skills and Experience Required Level D
Hold current registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner and specialist registration or equivalent professional standing.
Recognised expertise in Clinical Pharmacology and Quality Use of Medicines.
Extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
Strong record of academic leadership, collaboration and governance contribution.
Proven success in securing competitive research funding.
Level E (in addition to the above)
Internationally recognised expertise in Clinical Pharmacology and QUM education and research.
Demonstrated leadership of major academic units, committees or institutional initiatives.
Sustained leadership of large-scale national and international research funding programs.
Sustained record of influence on policy, accreditation, clinical guidelines or professional standards.
Strong and sustained record of academic leadership and scholarship.
Strategic leadership of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at faculty or institutional level.
Desirable
National or international leadership in Clinical Pharmacology or medicines education and research.
Significant contribution to national policy, accreditation or professional bodies.
Record of educational scholarship and innovation.
