PostDoc,‘Risks and Opportunities of Genome Editing’, Zürich (Kreis 11)

The‘Biosafety’ Research Group, together with 17 European partners, is taking part in the Horizon Europe project ‘Gene editing for a sustainable bioeconomy’ (GeneBEcon). The project is concerned with regulatory aspects, economic incentives and society’s perceptions of virus‑resistant potatoes with improved industrial tuber starch quality and microalgae‑based production of industrially relevant mycosporine‑like amino acids.

Tasks

Reviewing literature on the use of algae as industrial production units and the use of genome editing (GE) in algae.

Identifying potential entry pathways of GE algae into the environment.

Evaluating the factors of algal biology that influence the environmental risks of GE algae.

Writing scientific publications and presenting findings at national or international meetings.

Qualifications

University degree with a doctorate in Biology, Agricultural Sciences or Biotechnology.

Expertise in one or more of the following topics: (aquatic) ecology, biotechnology, risk assessment.

Performance‑driven, outgoing personality with good teamwork skills.

Knowledge of two official Swiss languages and very good (spoken and written) knowledge of English.
