In this new position, the Content Licensing Manager is responsible for supporting ISO’s transition from document sales toward content‑licensing models.
The role focuses on developing, structuring and operationalizing licensing approaches for ISO content, ensuring alignment with ISO’s Commercial and Copyright Policy while enabling consistent and scalable implementation across the ISO system.
In this capacity, the Content Licensing Manager brings strong expertise in content licensing, rights management and digital publishing, contributing to the design of licensing models and practical solutions that support the distribution, access and use of ISO content across multiple channels and formats (including digital platforms, subscriptions and emerging technologies such as AI‑enabled solutions).
A key dimension of the role is to enhance licensing capabilities across ISO members, by providing guidance, tools and hands‑on support to facilitate the adoption and effective implementation of licensing practices adapted to different levels of market maturity and digital readiness.
Key responsibilities Licensing strategy and policy
Support the development and implementation of ISO’s content licensing approaches, ensuring alignment with ISO’s Commercial and Copyright Policy and broader strategic objectives
Contribute to the design and evolution of licensing models for different use cases (e.g. individual access, enterprise licensing, integration into digital solutions, AI-enabled use), ensuring clarity, consistency and enforceability
Monitor market trends and best practices in content licensing and digital publishing (including subscription models, platform-based distribution and data-driven licensing), identifying implications and opportunities for ISO
Represent ISO Central Secretariat in discussions with ISO members, partners and external stakeholders on licensing-related topics
Licensing operations and implementation
Translate licensing principles into practical and operational solutions, including licensing models, templates and guidance (e.g. customer licence agreements, use‑based structures, subscription models)
Support ISO members in the practical implementation of licensing approaches, including structuring offers, defining use rights and restrictions, and adapting licensing models to local market conditions
Support the integration of licensing approaches into ISO’s and members’ digital distribution channels (e.g. webstores, subscription platforms, APIs), ensuring consistency between licensing terms and user experience
Work closely with Legal, IT and other relevant ISO Central Secretariat teams to ensure that licensing approaches are contractually robust, technically implementable and aligned with digital delivery mechanisms
Member capability and enablement
Enhance licensing capabilities across ISO members by developing and delivering guidance, toolkits, training sessions and tailored support, considering different levels of commercial maturity and digital readiness
Contribute to change management and communication activities supporting the transition to licensing, building awareness and understanding across the ISO system
Act as a subject‑matter expert on content licensing, rights management and digital content distribution, advising internal teams and ISO members on licensing strategies and implementation
Programme coordination and transformation support
Oversee and coordinate ongoing projects and initiatives related to content licensing, ensuring consistency, alignment and synergies across workstreams supporting the transition (e.g. digital distribution, reporting tools, value‑added products, member enablement initiatives)
Intellectual property protection and compliance
Contribute to the development and continuous evolution of ISO’s IP protection strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization’s transition toward content‑licensing models and digital distribution environments
Identify risks related to copyright leakage and unauthorized use of ISO Publications, and design and implement proportionate, risk‑based measures to prevent, detect and address such risks
Develop and execute enforcement and compliance approaches, in coordination with relevant internal and external stakeholders, to safeguard the commercial value of ISO content while ensuring consistency with policy, legal frameworks and member practices
Reports to Head of Commercial Policy and Marketing
Qualification and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in law, business, publishing, or a related field
At least 7 years of experience in content licensing, rights management, or digital publishing (experience in the publishing, media, or information services industry is strongly preferred)
Strong understanding of copyright, intellectual property rights and contractual frameworks related to content licensing
Proven experience designing and implementing licensing models for digital content (e.g. subscriptions, enterprise licensing, platform/API licensing, SaaS or data licensing)
Experience working with digital distribution platforms and technologies (e.g. online content platforms, DRM systems, APIs, data delivery mechanisms)
Proven experience coordinating or overseeing multiple projects or workstreams, ideally in a transformation context
Experience contributing to business model transformation toward licensing‑based or subscription‑based approaches is an asset
Experience working in international or multi‑stakeholder environments; experience with standards or technical content is an asset
Excellent command of English; additional languages are an asset
