Director, Environment Programme Through our grant‑making, we contribute to a safer, fairer, and more sustainable world. With offices in Europe, Africa, and North America, we make grants to organisations in approximately 40 countries worldwide.
About the Environment Programme: It makes grants that focus on safeguarding our future by restoring our connection to nature. The programme comprises three sub‑programmes – Marine Food Systems and Livelihoods, Nature and People, and Regenerative Landscapes – and adopts a systems‑change approach to address the root causes of societal challenges, improving health and strength of communities and the natural environment while envisioning cross‑sector solutions for multiple social and biodiversity benefits. People and communities are placed at the heart of our grant‑making.
Purpose of the role: We are seeking a Director to lead our Environment Programme and team. Based in Geneva, the Director will oversee the overall leadership of the Environment Programme portfolio and manage a team of approximately seven staff. Grant‑making in 2026 totaled USD 32 million.
Main responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing programme strategy
Managing the grant portfolio and the team
Leading field‑building activities, including network development, funder relationships, convenings, collaborative projects, and representing Oak Foundation externally
Position requirements:
At least 15 years of experience, expertise, and networks in these sectors
Proven ability to manage and motivate a senior‑level, diverse, and international team
Strong ability to represent the Environment Programme and Oak Foundation with clarity and impact to a range of stakeholders
Candidates must be resident in Switzerland at the time of employment due to cross‑border regulatory requirements and travel obligations.
Oak Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, as detailed in our child‑safeguarding policy. All staff are expected to share this commitment. Successful candidates will undergo reference checks and must provide a police record prior to starting employment.
