Responsibilities As the holder of the position (m/f/d), you will be responsible for teaching and research in sociological theory and communication. The professorship is expected to further develop sociological theories and apply communication as a fundamental concept in the analysis and teaching of current societal developments.
In teaching, you will contribute substantially to the following degree programs: the BA program in Society and Communication, particularly the core curriculum and specialization in Media; the MA program in Society and Communication, especially in the specialization Media&Digital Transformation; and the BA and MA Sociology programs. You will also actively participate in developing new study programs within and between faculties. Experience with interdisciplinary degree programs, teaching in sociology, and student supervision is an advantage.
Research Expectations You will maintain an outstanding research record. Your track record should demonstrate research achievements such as publications in top‑tier scholarly journals or presses, the ability to acquire third‑party funding, and prizes and other academic awards. The Department of Sociology expects that your research will significantly advance sociological research nationally and internationally.
General Hiring Requirements These include holding a PhD in sociology by your start date. You must be able to teach in English or German. You either have German language proficiency at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or are willing to acquire it within a reasonable timeframe.
