Mechanical Engineering Intern, Lausanne

Join ONWARD Medical’s mission to restore movement, independence, and health in people with spinal cord injury. We are looking for a 6-month intern available within the period of July 2026 to February 2027.

Responsibilities

Assist in the development of the mechanics for our implantable and external neurostimulation platforms under the supervision and tutelage of senior engineering staff

Gain design experience through independent and collaborative work, and build team skills by supporting larger development projects

Develop test tools for characterisation and design verification

Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines including electrical, firmware, human factors, systems/therapy development, and with other departments including quality assurance, clinical and regulatory affairs

Investigate, prototype, and analyse new features, design options, and mechanical subassemblies

Apply Design for Reliability&Manufacturing tools, including concept development, modelling&simulation, sensitivity/tolerance analysis, and stress analysis

Work within a highly regulated environment, learning and applying design control methods, applicable standards, and technical and formal review processes

Qualifications

Enrolled in an engineering degree program in mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar

Demonstrated hands‑on engineering skills through internships, student teams, and/or other extracurriculars

Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Applicants must already hold a valid Swiss work/student permit or be eligible to work in Switzerland (Swiss or EU/EFTA citizenship)
