The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) invites applications for its 2026 Internship Program in Switzerland. This general call is open to students and recent graduates who wish to express interest in internships across various departments throughout the year.

Internships are conducted at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and its external offices worldwide. The duration ranges from 8 weeks to 12 months, depending on the intern’s academic level and assignment needs. Selected interns will gain exposure to WIPO’s work in promoting innovation and creativity through a balanced international IP system while building professional experience in a dynamic global environment.

Two categories of internships are available:

Category I : For undergraduates (3rd or 4th year), recent bachelor’s graduates (within 2 years), or master’s students who haven’t completed coursework. Duration: 2–6 months. Stipend: 1,645 CHF per month.

Category II : For master’s students (coursework completed) or recent master’s/postgraduate graduates (within 2 years), or those in further doctoral studies. Duration: 2–12 months. Stipend: 2,170 CHF per month.

Fields include Law / IP Law, Economics, IT, Administration, Technical Cooperation, Communications, and more. WIPO values diversity and encourages applications from candidates from unrepresented and underrepresented member states and groups.

Benefits

Monthly stipend provided to cover accommodation, board, and local transportation costs. The stipend is not a wage or honorarium.

When at Geneva headquarters:

Category I stipend of 1,645 CHF per month, including local transportation allowance.

Category II stipend of 2,170 CHF per month, including local transportation allowance.

Travel reimbursement up to CHF 1,500 for eligible interns from developing, least developed, or transitioning countries.

Visa support for Switzerland, if needed.

10 official holidays per year + 2.5 days of leave per month.

Full medical and accident insurance coverage.

Eligibility Criteria

Completed at least a first-level university degree; recent graduates (within 2 years) or current postgraduates are eligible.

Strong command of English and/or French; knowledge of other WIPO languages (Arabic, Chinese, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish) is a plus.

Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related applications.

Strong analytical abilities.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and ability to adapt quickly to new systems and software.

Responsibilities (Main Duties)

Individuals pursuing or having obtained a university degree are required to be in their third or fourth year of study or in a program requiring internship as part of the degree requirements.

Graduates can apply no more than two years after completion of their most recent university degree or postgraduate studies.

Good analytical skills.

Excellent knowledge and drafting skills in English are required.

Knowledge of WIPO working languages would be an advantage.

Candidates must add a cover letter / letter of motivation to their applications.

Interns are expected to work full time.

Interns will engage in tasks assigned by the Hiring Office, including drafting reports, supporting research, participating in meetings, and handling various administrative and technical matters in their assigned field.
