Main Purpose of the Role To teach within the extracurricular programme, delivering engaging Secondary Drama classes aimed at developing students' creative expression, acting skills, and confidence. The role also contributes to the wider performing arts provision, including participation in the school's musical production programme.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver high‑quality Drama lessons for secondary students (ages 11+) within the extracurricular programme.
Design and implement a structured programme based on a defined scheme of work, covering areas such as creative expression, improvisation, acting techniques, and performance skills.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment that encourages student participation and artistic development.
Prepare students for performances and showcases through structured rehearsals.
Maintain clear and progressive records of lesson plans, student development, and targets.
Comfortable with technology and proactive in using the school's tools to communicate with families.
Communicate effectively and regularly with parents and the reporting line.
Take responsibility for organising, coordinating, and supervising drama productions, including script work, casting, and rehearsals.
Collaborate with colleagues and actively contribute to the school's musical production programme.
Undertake other duties as assigned.
Candidate Profile Qualification
Required: Recognised Drama Teaching qualification
Preferred: Ability to accompany on piano
Experience
Required: Experience teaching Drama to secondary students to a high standard
Preferred: Experience in school productions
Prior Skills and Knowledge
Required: Understanding of voice development and performance techniques
Preferred: Experience in musical theatre
Additional Skills
Strong enthusiasm and passion for Drama and performing arts
Ability to build and deliver a coherent and progressive drama curriculum
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to engage and motivate students of varying abilities
Organisational and collaborative skills
Experience in musical theatre
It is important that the post holder is always aware of Child Protection guidelines and observes a professional distance from students whilst still developing effective working and caring relationships.
You understand and embrace the importance of diversity and inclusion and stand against discrimination in any form.
Background investigations and reference checks for the past ten years will be conducted during the selection process.
