Position R&D Senior Engineer (Internship)

Internship Overview ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with its business areas, develops the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. We offer a motivated student a six-month internship within the Sensing and Analytics group. During the internship you will work on a system for marine and port automation, focusing on machine learning algorithms with synthetic and real‑world sensor data.

Responsibilities

Exploration of current challenges in marine or ports via direct interaction with ABB R&D units

Review of academic literature

Design, evaluation and documentation of potential solutions

Quick prototyping of solutions through proof‑of‑concept implementations

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or a similar field; enrollment in the 5th semester or higher is essential

Interest in data analytics, machine learning or computer vision

Experience with Python and PyTorch is required; experience with ROS2 and/or LiDAR is a plus

Proficiency in English

Willingness to learn and adapt quickly to new research topics

Self‑motivation and hands‑on attitude

Ability to think conceptually and express ideas clearly and convincingly

Availability for six months (start and end dates are open for discussion)
